Time Magazine article on Evaluating School Leaders

I thought this article might spark some conversation regarding the subject of evaluation processes for school leaders. It is not very long, but points to a recent study done on the topic and references some schools near communities involved with the Community Learning Exchange.

Relying on the four tenants outlined by New Leaders for New Schools, really? This is the organization that has provided, at best, suspect evidence that their leadership development programs have any value whatsoever. This is another in a long line of NLNS, KIPP, and TFA heavily funded, under researched media releases filled with hyperbole. Sadly someone in Washington is listening-- Sec. Duncan.

Thanks Steve! My perspective is there is always someone to blame. In the past the achievement gap between different ethnicities was the point to start a revolution in parent involvement. Now they re-discover another way to focus the same failure in other direction, teachers. The problem is bigger and more complicated that an evaluation for teachers performance. There is a social change going on that involves a higher diversity in classrooms and the lack of preparation to serve the new population. We need leadership in the schools. The sad situation is children are the victims of the system. We are not preparing citizens to face a diverse society.

Thanks for sharing the article, Steve. Ironic, that in a system built on evaluation, evaluation would be so problematic. Is it that we are ineffective or undisciplined in our assessment processes or does this point to some deeper systemic issue we need to address?
To be continued...
